NYCO TIMES
What's up, man?
11th August 2006
[Mass Xiao Zu]

Heyyo! There was a spot-check on M4-01 and the store room today by Cockroach, our reporter. Things that were found to be unsatisfactory were reportedly overwhelming! What now?! Our reporter had managed to get in-scope details of the room (and thus whole-heartedly gave some comments):

M4-01
"OH NO! What happened? The room is so messy! I see the chairs NOT neatly stacked in divisions of 12! I see the stands scattered at the sides, NOT having the same height! I see menacing rubbish and countless dirt on the ground, NOT any clean bare floor! Arrrgh! I even see my tong2 lei4 "Ka Chua" around! (Okay that was fake)!"

Store Room
"OH NO! What happened? Why are some scores thrown hap-hazardly all over? Why? Why are some instruments ...? OH MAN!"

Cockroach was seen in a fit (OH NO!) and she had decided that something had needed to be done about the current predicament alright! What are the best solutions for such issues?

1. Rags (for cleaning up)
2. Plastic Bags (for the bins)
3. Enthusiasm (for your own good larrh)

To be due by next Dazu. Next Friday. 18th August 2006!
Cockroach says: "I have a dream! That NYCO would do all these, before my other evil cockroach counterparts pounce upon us. Whahah."

HELLO NYCO!!

looking at chewfei that post, i feel guilty!! for stoning still, while chewfei has been planning these and emptying the dustbin in M4-01!

THUS,
laiweng is here to inspire everyone! (x so you better well be inspired i dont care!

Playing what you feel is easy when you understand what feeling is. Feeling is not emotion, yet it contains emotion.
To play what you feel does not require high or low emotional states. (In fact, when you play a piece of music, you need to put away all other emotions. If you were angry with someone, do not play it into your music!)
On the contrary, feeling is always with us and to just sit down and play is all that is required. Our feeling is what comes out of us in the moment. It lies in wait but is always there.

Think of freewriting as an analogy. To put pen to paper and just write what comes to mind, the writer is expressing feeling. Emotions may come up during this process, but they gradually return to the pool of feelings from which they came.

Playing comes a music that is not forced or willed into being. On the contrary, feeling is allowed to be expressed normally and naturally. It becomes an easy thing to do, just like freewriting.
(Though in the case of NYCO, even if you do not feel anything, you still have to fake it out no matter what kay!! :D )

It is also important to enjoy whatever you are playing, even if you think that the piece of music is the worse thing you have ever heard, still play along and try to fall in love with it!

Delve into your heart and soul, play with your HEART, not simply just the notes.

Look at those crescendos, dimuendos (sp?), the climax, the chordal emphasis. You might think that all these are just to decorate and spice the song up, but in fact, it is to portray whatever story or scene it is supposed to represent.

There is always a WHY behind each song. For example, Wen Qi composed Xiao Le Xiao Qu to portray the times during CO pracs, just like artists get inspiration for their art works from something. Of course, there may be some weird music that does not hold any meaning, but those are really really rare.
To play a music well, it is crucial that the player understands the meaning of the song she is playing, so that she can play the piece according to the composer’s meaning. Imagine if the composer meant a specific part to be furious, but yet the player plays it as sorrow, wouldnt it be such a joke?

The aim, as a music player is to touch the listener. Citing a concert we went to (I shall not say the name of the soloist though), everyone agreed that the girl s technique was excellent, the technical playing was flawless, but everyone was realy bored with the concert, not because the songs chosen were boring, but simply because the girl herself doesnt enjoy the music thus the audience didnt enjoy it too.

Let us all work towards making our audience cry!

WAHAHAHA.

[edit] laiweng is proud of the first job she has done! (: [/edit]

NYCO!!

When Shawn comes up to you with a menacing face; and growls your full name, especially focusing on your surname, you know something is wrong. Very wrong...

Right.

*tremors*

And she told me M4-01 needs cleaning up! :D

What a fright when she went "PHANG Chew Fei" along the corridor. Totally freaked me out. Thought what hahaha!

So people, M4-01 needs cleaning up! YAY! WOOHOO!

Personally, I like cleaning up. I think cleaning up is really fun when you swipe off that dirt and reveal a clean, new, smooth surface and everything smells so nice. Don't fret, Chewy actually really likes cleaning up, though I know a lot us don't, due to other reasons baah haha.

Here I am, to motivate you about cleaning up! Cleaning up is actually not that bad you know. Think of the fresh smelling M4-01 and the clean floors! Everything is kept in perfect order (for the moment yes) and there is no litter in sight at all! An ideal! Yay!

I believe, when you do cleaning up, don't just think about the dirt and grime you are going to deal with. Be the consequentialist here, not the deontologist! Think of the benefits that derive from cleaning up:
1) Everyone has a cleaner room for better music
2) Everyone has a good standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene
3) Everyone has a good time with one another smearing dirt on each other's faces

Okay the third point isnt for real haha!

Tired/ Stubborn/ Dirt-Allergic as you may be, we must all clean up M4-01 as one NYCO! Okay haha it sounds really funny. It's not a choice, afterall, it's an issue that bugs us no matter in CCA, Class, or even at Home right! Let's all try to make our CCA more pleasant first haha.

Let's do cleaning up at the first Dazu practice after the suspension! Time and date not confirmed (can someone enlighten me), but do bring along your rags to do a nice clean-up together! :D

RAGS! RAGS! RAGS!

Okay, alright, thanks for letting me rant here. Actually I did enjoy clearing the trash you know hahaha!
